DUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLD AWARD – MARCUS STUARTDUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLD AWARD – MARCUS STUART

Congratulations to Marcus Stuart of the 1st Fraserburgh who has achieved his Gold Duke of Edinburgh after a great deal of hard work and dedication.

Marcus, who achieved his Queen’s Badge last year, was presented with his award certificate by Moira Givan. It is hoped that his badge will be awarded at the Palace of Holyroodhouse soon.

This is the first Gold Duke of Edinburgh awarded to a member of his Company for many years. Ruary McDonald, 4th Fraserburgh, also recently achieved this high award.

Well done Marcus!

Ruary McDonald, 4th Fraserburgh was awarded his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this morning at the Joint Church Service at Fraserburgh West Kirk.

Congratulations to Ruary in gaining the award for which he volunteered for 12 Months within the Brigade ⚓️, did Cooking/Baking 🥧for his skill and Badminton 🏸for his Physical for 6/12 Months, did his Gold Expedition in Glen Clova, Cairngorms ⛰️for 4 days/3 nights and a residential on a yacht ⛵️with Ocean Youth Trust on the West Coast for 5 days/4 nights.

Ruary will attend the Gold Presentation at Holyrood, Edinburgh in July where he will be presented with Certificate by Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh

The DofE classes for those who are signed up for Bronze and Silver DofE Awards will begin on Monday 25th March at Strichen Parish Church.

The DofE Advisor asks that parents attend this first evening to allow him to explain what will be required for the course and expedition.

After this initial week, there will be a break for the holidays before the 9 week course resumes after Easter.

An information session will be held for prospective Duke of Edinburgh Award candidates at Strichen Kirk on 16th November.

Captains/ Company OICs, parents and Boys/Girls are invited to attend to get details of the Bronze and Silver programme running this year.

Candidates will be signed up at this meeting and agree upon their volunteering, physical and interest aspects of the award.

The Bronze award generally runs along with President’s Badge candidates and the silver level with King’s/Queen’s Badge candidates. This, however, is only a general rule.

DofE TRAINING FOR EXPEDITION – 2022/23DofE TRAINING FOR EXPEDITION – 2022/23

Training for DofE this year will begin 8th November 2022 at Strichen church. Parents of interested parties are invited and encouraged to attend this first night to find out what kit to get and find out what’s involved!

The weekly training day and venue will be decided depending on numbers. If numbers are average (below 25) we will continue teaching on Tuesday evenings at the venue Strichen Town

Hall in the centre of Strichen. If numbers are greater than 25 (never happened yet) we will teach on Monday nights at the Ritchie Hall Strichen.

We will continue with training for at least 3 weeks after.

If on Tuesday’s the dates will be 15th, 22nd, 29th. It’s a 10 week course total. So 6 more weeks will continue after Christmas.

Dates for hikes are yet to be confirmed depending on staff availability.

and Silver boys Marcus & Ross (1st Fraserburgh); Ruary (4th Fraserburgh); Brandon & Connor (1st New Pitsligo) you have all done brilliantly well and a credit to yourselves and your Companies

Eleven young men set off on their Bronze and Silver DofE Practice hike yesterday!

The Bronze candidates must complete a two day hike with one night wild camping whilst the Silver candidates must complete a three day hike with two nights wild camping.
