LONG SERVICE AWARDSLONG SERVICE AWARDS

At this morning’s Battalion Parade long service awards were presented to two very dedicated officers.

Our Vice-President Steve Wilson, Captain of 1st Strichen, was presented with his Gold Award for 30 years of service as an officer. Meanwhile our Battalion Secretary, Yvonne Duthie, was presented with her Silver Award for 20 years service. Yvonne is also Officer-in-Charge of the 1st Fraserburgh Company Section.

In presenting the awards our Battalion President Marc Thomson noted the hard work and dedication both have put into their companies and their battalion. Neither were aware of the award and were taken by surprise by the President.

Well done both and thank you for everything you have done and do to keep our Battalion strong!

NEW YEAR MESSAGENEW YEAR MESSAGE

Dear All,

As we approach the end of 2022, we can reflect and look back with much satisfaction. During the year, we have witnessed our Battalion and Companies returning to something approaching normal as we rebuild after the Covid lockdowns.

Much hard work has taken place by our dedicated leaders and helpers to ensure that our Companies can meet safely and enjoy a varied program of face to face activities once more. Battalion competitions are back in full swing with large turnouts of young people attending. Leaders were finally able to meet in Orkney for the NSA Conference, and we had a great fun day at Strichen Community Park to help celebrate Her Late Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I thank everyone for their efforts and enthusiasm.

Despite the many happy memories, 2022 brought much heart-ache to our BB family in Buchan. We were devastated by the sudden loss of Duncan Leel Jnr and were deeply saddened by the loss of Andrew West, Stuart Pratt and George Birkett. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all their family and friends. With the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, The Boys’ Brigade lost its Patron, who had served us well for over 70 years, we once again give thanks for her dedicated service.

At this time, I would also like to congratulate all our young people who achieved their Duke of Edinburgh, President’s or Queen’s Badge this year. Hard work and commitment is required in order to attain them all, and so you should be very proud of your achievements!

May you all have a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2023.

Lt Marc Thomson
